CAMARO TWIN TURBO
TECH

Pictured is my '68 Camaro, sporting a 350 small block with two turbonetics T-3, T-4 Hybrid turbos Camaro Full Viewand GM TPI fuel injection. The block is a production 4 Bolt Bored 30 over. The cast crank is linked to GM PM 5.7 rods and TRW Forged Pistons with pressed pins. The valve train includes a Crower turbo-master cam with 212° in and 200° ex duration at .050. Adv duration checks out at 278° in and 260° ex. This cam is very small and pulls 22 in. of vacuum (600 rpm) at idle.

As for the rest of the engine, let's just say that adding turbos to your small block does not have to break the bank. My first attempt worked out well but left the turbos slightly above the hood. This was done using headman header tight tubes, flipping them upside down and cutting and rotating one of the flanges. As you can see, this set-up required minimal fabrication. There are more pictures in the Photos section.

I had aquired one T-3 Turbo from a beat up T-Type that I owned. I bought the other turbo on-line for $200. They were matching turbos and bolted right up to the collectors. I also lucked out on my injection system. I aquired the hard parts of the system from a local junk yard for $200. I then turned to Holley for their 950-ECM-harness assembly, which is user-friendly and fully programmable. I started with 36 lb. injectors but soon switched to 48 lb. to handle the task.

Intercooling was done with two Spearco air to liquid intercoolers, a 5 gallon fuel cell holding water, and a pump from turbonetics. The rest of the system was minor fabrication using turbonetics flanges and pre-bent exhaust tubing from Napa. The are no pipes on this car that required custom bending!

When I fired up the car the performance was awesome. The turbos would give as much boost as you could ask for but the engine was detonating at 12 psi. I soon upgraded to T-3, T-4 turbos under the advisement of Turbonetics. The difference was amazing. As you can see in the Photos, I also built new headers that keep everything under the stock hood. Talk about a sleeper. I am looking forward to April 2003, when the dragstrip opens. I will post results on the site.
